Landfilling Operations—Being a Good Neighbour

Some basic rules of good public relations which can help make landfills into good neighbours are reviewed: use an experienced and knowledgeable consultant engineer to design and follow construction; keep good records; use an objective review panel including neighbours of the site; try to make the environs attractive; appoint a spokesman and develop a good relation with the news media. Compensation for loss of property values in areas adjoint to a landfill is a legitimate part of site selection.
